He Perito Moreno Glacier, about 200 square kilometers in length, is located on the mountain range of The Andes, natural border between Argentina and Chile, and is one of the few in the world that remains stable, without going back as a result of global warming.

The front of the glacier is about 2.8 kilometers long and has a height of about 70 meters above the lake's water level, although the wall of ice reaches its bed.

Well yesterday crumbled his famous "bridge" completely, in an unusual way since the rupture occurred during the southern winter instead of in summer as normally happens every four or five years, and at a time when few visitors contemplated the imposing block of ice located in the Los Glaciares National Park, in the southern Argentine province of Santa Cruz.

The phenomenon is caused by the pressure of the waters on the ice dam, which begins to crack until it forms a arc-shaped hollow that weakens him and ends up collapsing.

The break was accompanied by the screams of those who, defying the cold although on a day in full sun, they had bet on the catwalks that overlook the bridge waiting for the natural phenomenon.

El Perito Moreno, a visit that is well worth it if you go through Argentina. At least I, when I return, will do my best to return to the abode of this impressive ice colossus.
