Valencia is one of my favorite cities in Spain. A few weeks ago I toured its streets for the umpteenth time and the truth is that I never get tired of the great amount of beautiful things to see in Valencia.

Although Valencia has the Mediterranean Sea at its feet, the city seems to turn its back on its greatest source of life, as a proud and self-sufficient lover. Yes, it is true that Valencians enjoy a bath in Malvarrosa during the hot days of the year, but when you walk through the beautiful historic center of Valencia, you don't have the feeling of doing it for a coastal city.

Valencia Cathedral

The best time to visit Valencia is springWhen the gardens of the city explode in color, the temperature is ideal and the night, with its illuminated buildings, is romantic.

These are, for me, the best places to see in Valencia:

1. Square of the Virgin

Square of the Virgin of Valencia

I sit on the steps facing the beautiful Fountain of Turia and I am delighted looking at the three monumental buildings that overlook the Plaza de la Virgen de Valencia: the Cathedral of Santa María, the Basilica of the Virgen de los Desamparados and the Palace of the Generalitat.

A large number of tourists pass through here every day and some, when the sun goes down and the temperature becomes more pleasant, they take the opportunity to drink something fresh on any of the terraces with views. At that time young people also appear with their skateboards, ready to practice their tricks in this historic place.

And, in the heat of the spring day, the Plaza de la Virgen sweats history.

2. Town Hall Square
