We arrived at the entrance booth shortly after noon with a suffocating and humid heat. In Tayrona - as in the whole tropical part of Colombia - there is only winter and summer, the difference between the two being the amount of rain that falls. Here the rainy season is winter, so arriving at the end of May we consider ourselves saved.

We walk along a path in the middle of the jungle. Despite the prevailing sun, the walk was quite pleasant because the sun's rays were barely reaching us, sheltered under the jungle. After a little more than an hour's walk we reached a clearing in which we saw cabins and other buildings, including a restaurant by the sea and an information center. We were informed of prices but we did not stay because we wanted to go deeper into the Park and there was not a soul there. Or almost no soul ... It was there that we met the great character Juan, the Pirate. He - along with two rather chungos Italians - joined us on the way to Cabo San Juan de Guía.
